…it’s messy, unpredictable, but full of these little sparks of joy that remind me why I do it all.
Some days, being a mom of four feels like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle. Add open schooling into the mix and trying to keep up with my art, and… well, you get the picture. Chaos is kind of my default setting.
But here’s the thing—I’ve learned that peace doesn’t have to be this big, unreachable thing. It shows up in tiny pockets, if you let it. Sometimes it’s the quiet moment when the kids are finally absorbed in a project, and I can take a few minutes to sketch or mix colors. Other times it’s standing in the kitchen, sipping my coffee while the toddler chatters while building Legos, and realizing that right here, right now, life is okay.
Open schooling has helped me see that the journey is just as beautiful as the destination. Watching my kids dive into something they love, exploring at their own pace, and learning alongside them… it’s messy, unpredictable, but full of these little sparks of joy that remind me why I do it all.
As an artist, I’ve also found that creating—even for just 15 minutes—grounds me. It’s my way to breathe, to process, and to reconnect with myself amidst the busy-ness. Sometimes it’s not about finishing a painting; sometimes it’s just about holding a brush and letting the colors guide me.
Being a mom, a teacher, and an artist is a lot. Some days are overwhelming. But the little moments—the coffee in the morning, the laughter echoing down the hallway, the colors on my palette—they all add up. And somehow, in the middle of all the chaos, there’s peace.
Cheers!
